E-Myth
Entrepreneur, Technician, Manager
At some point you have to put down the business books and start. See my posts about action.
IF you read one book, make it this one:
Many take aways in here but where I key in is this:
People are entrepreneurs, technicians, or managers. You can pick two but you are the strongest in one. You are horrible in the one you didnโt pick. Be prepared to stare in the skeleton closet and slaughter hindu cows but you are not good at something and mediocre at another and great in one, maybe.
When I started my business I thought I was a good manager. I had lead Marines, trained them, had many employees that reported to me. But, with my new company, I was for sure the entrepreneur because I started it (and had a big vision), but I was also the technician because I knew everything about this one facet of the construction industry. So by rules of elimination, I was not the manager. This for a guy who thinks he can do anything was hard to face. But I did.
My first big hire was a guy who was an excellent manager. It allowed me to double down on my two strengths.
Then I had to decide that if I was going to be the visionary, I need to surround myself with technicians. So I did (kind of).
Which one are you and who should you hire?
